Pacquiao vs. Mayweather in 2012? Seriously?

Manila, Philippines – Way back in May, I wrote an article on the "below the belt" tactics that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and company are doing just to make sure that they are in the limelight.
And after the Saranggani Congressman’s camp made it public that Mayweather is not in the list of fighters lined up for the Pac-Man, news breaks out that Mayweather agrees to fight the pride of the Philippines on May 2012.

But the question is do you believe it? Is this for real or just another ploy to make sure that Mayweather is not eased out of the picture?

Mayweather Jr. last fought in September 17 against Victor Ortiz where he reclaimed one of his old welterweight belts. The victory was not one of the impressive victories seen in boxing and was considered “foul” by most including Pacquiao.

Pacquiao called the move unfair but just the same, Mayweather Jr. was awarded the victory. Ortiz though was not spared from criticism, using headbutts during their match.

Manny Pacquiao is set to face Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12, 2011 dubbed as “The Last Stand”. This will be the third meeting between the two boxers which may eventually settle the score on who is the better boxer between the two.

Mayweather Jr. made it public through his adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there.

And if his word is to be taken, the biggest fight is of course directed towards a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, something that many fans and followers have been asking for in the past years.

Mayweather initially requested a special drug testing for the Filipino boxer. After some hesitant moments, the Pac Man finally agreed.

Afterwards, Mayweather required the tests to be taken days before the fight, something that practically erased the whole thing from happening.

Then after knocking out Victor Ortiz, Mayweather believes he should get a bigger share from fight revenues which is bound to be a new dilemma should the two camps come together and commence negotiations.

So while many believe that the new announcement of Mayweather opens a whole new door of opportunity, don’t get your hopes up just yet. The same scenario has happened before so there is a big change that it may end up like those again – a DEAD END.

For now, Pacquiao is focusing on his match with Marquez and the fighters lined up to come after. As to whether they would squeeze in Mayweather to that list remains to be seen.

And should Pacquiao turn down the bout due to apparent reasons, you can bet that Mayweather and his camp will turn the tables on the Pac Man and make him look like the reluctant fighter to give the fans what they want to see.

In parting, this best describes the Pacquiao-Mayweather brouhaha; “Believe It or Not!”
